Months of planning have all culminated in this one day.  With the help of family and friends, Saturday we began the task of putting together the Hands on Black History Museum for the Truman community to experience in celebration of Black History Month.  This year the museum is housed in a classroom. This allows classes to visit at their leisure during the month.  It further allows the exhibit to be spread out and for students to enjoy  individual activities more.  Part one of the museum focuses on Slavery, Explorers, Sports, and Inventors.    Activities include designing a sports trading card, exploring a replica of Henry Box Brown's  box and learning about this courageous traveler, making an invention with a patent, and the challenge of thinking how we are all "framed" in history by our individual choices. Part two of the museum will cover the last two weeks of the month and promises to be just as engaging.  The exhaustion  of planning and set up are far outweighed by the excitement of fellow teachers and students as they anxiously learn about a history that belongs to us all.
